I was initially introduced to the business philosophy of Mitch Thrower through a lecture at the University of San Diego. I was inspired, invigorated and motivated after hearing Mitch speak, and I left the room wanting more. I could have easily listened to the entire presentation again. When I found the job posting for “The Ultimate Internship” at Thrower Ventures, I was immediately interested. At that time, I could only imagine how it would be to work in the environment that supports Mitch’s life philosophy and passion for success.
The job posting stated, “Associates will establish understanding of companies with open-book exposure to company programs. Associates will present valuable insight and projects to the managers. An excellent opportunity for college students to learn about and get first-hand experience with business.” In reality, the description of the internship was exceeded. My summer internship with Thrower Ventures surpassed my expectations.
Mitch Thrower’s Summer Internship Program does not offer traditional internships. Here, interns work directly alongside Mitch and his group of professionals. Mitch gives his interns numerous opportunities to explore, experience and succeed. He goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and included in business ordeals. It is the type of internship where you will not just see business meetings and conference calls being conducted, you will actually sit at the table during the meeting and participate in the call.
If I could give a new intern two pieces of advice, the first would be to take advantage of the environment. The people and the surroundings make this internship amazing. Every employee is genuine, knowledgeable and talented. Every individual has a current project or future endeavor that they are pursuing, making the office a stimulating and inspiring environment. My second piece of advice to new interns would be to complete every task wholeheartedly, no matter how large or small the task might be. In doing this, you will gain invaluable knowledge and experience from the Thrower Ventures Summer Internship Program.
This summer I hoped to gain experience through an internship program; Thrower Ventures gave me more than that. I learned about marketing, the power of the internet, private equity investments, funding, non-profits, investments, business development, advertising and business culture. I started with a basic internship and ended up with an official position, and more importantly, an abundance of knowledge and experience.
